I am a Korean-American maker with years of experience assisting artists, managing studios and shops, and living in communal settings. Creative collaboration is an uncanny thing and requires technical experience, emotional and physical commitment, situational awareness, and empathetic imagination.
I engage with processes and thoughts as people create physical representations of inner worlds. I liken this to an intersection of psychic space. I might never fully grasp the internal object a collaborator is responding to, but we can still both look at and enter it from different angles. I also enjoy the technical aspects of getting something novel to work, while noting how much past experience carries over into a new application or set of constraints.
I hold conversations and shared time in my body when I work, threading parts of myself into a field that occasionally presents a limited view of whose thoughts and imaginations matter. I want to make room for more people like me who occasionally find themselves with doubts about their belonging or importance while making something new.
